Summary
You're viewing the connections made by the OpenDNS IP Updater using a network monitoring tool, and you notice that one of the connections resolves to a Google-owned IP address.
Explanation
OpenDNS hosts application updates for the IP Updater client on Google's AppSpot service, otherwise known as the Google Application Engine. The OpenDNS IP Updater checks for updates upon startup, and thereafter at regular intervals.
OpenDNS is not using Google services for any kind of analytics, statistics, or information storage with regards to the IP Updater Client. Your IP update history is stored in our system so that you may view it in your Dashboard's Admin Audit Log.
