Note: This configuration is for the OpenDNS configuration of NETGEAR routers. If you are looking for NETGEAR Live Parental Controls (LPC), please visit https://support.opendns.com/entries/21804554-Frequently-Asked-Quest... for more information and http://www.netgear.com/genie to download the NETGEAR Genie to manage your Live Parental Controls.
1. Type the router's setup URL (http://192.168.0.1) into a web browser address bar.
http://192.168.0.1 is the default Netgear router IP address.
(http://192.168.1.1 will work for some Netgear models.)
3. Type in OpenDNS addresses in Primary DNS and Secondary DNS fields.
If you do not see the following screen, click on Basic Settings. If the options are not present and your device is supplied by your Internet provider, the ability to set custom DNS servers may have been disabled.
Please write down your current DNS settings (if any are set) before switching to OpenDNS, in case you want to return to your old settings for any reason.
Set the DNS addresses section settings to "Use These DNS Servers".
The addresses for OpenDNS are:
- 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
5. Wait for the settings to be updated.
After the settings have updated, we highly suggest that you flush your DNS resolver cache and web browser caches to ensure that your new DNS configuration settings take immediate effect.
