Overview
This Knowledge Base article will show you how to set up your IOS device in order to use OpenDNS.
Note:
These instructions only work for Wi-Fi connections because iOS does not allow you to change the DNS servers when connected to cellular networks. Also, the changes are network specific, so you'll need to change the DNS servers every time you connect to a new wireless network. The good news is that iOS remembers the settings, so you won't have to repeat these changes whenever you reconnect to a known network.
Also, this works the same on all iOS devices.
Changing your IOS device's DNS settings:
- From the IOS device's home screen, tap Settings
- Tap Wi-Fi. The available wireless networks in range of your IOS device appear.
-
Find your wireless network in the list, and then click the symbol as shown below.
-
The screen shown below appears. Tap the DNS field.
-
Delete the current DNS servers and enter OpenDNS resolvers: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220. Please be sure to separate the servers with commas.
- Exit this menu. Your settings are automatically saved.
That's it! You've updated your IOS device's DNS servers!
