Trying to block Google Hangouts on home server
I am trying to block google hangouts. It continues to work after I put it in the site block. Both the app for chrome and within gmail it continues to work.
How can I block it? It is getting in the way of homework completion.
Thanks.

Sad to hear that you have Search Engines blocked, so you cannot find it out yourself. I can help you out:
As of https://support.sonicwall.com/kb/sw14228 you add the following domains to your "always block" list:
- mtalk.google.com
- www.googleapis.com
In Chrome disable also the Data Saver mode.
Please note that blocking www.googleapis.com may block other Google services too.

A Google search brought me here. Before using the above DNS lists, I decided to use Fiddler. It appears the APIs used have been updated. To block Hangouts as of February 2021, block these domains:
client-channel.google.com
clients6.google.com
I don't know if this is versioning, or if other clients*.google.com are used. I did ensure that you can send and receive emails from Gmail using the web browser after this.
