I am posting one solution to the "This device is registered with another OpenDns user" problem below.
Feel free to "repost" if you think it might help some folk. It may well have already been posted elsewhere on the community.
I see that post 115010724746 was removed for some reason - https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115010724746/comments/115005193463#community_comment_115005193463
Oct 21, 2017 - Hi, my device MAC 08:BD:43:C4:B7:87 can't use parental controls because shows registered with another opendns user, please help ASAP.
Regarding 115010724746 if people get wearied of the router 101 questions do you NOT have the option of not replying? If so then maybe a good slug of a single malt or a nice chugg of a Belgian Leffe beer might soften the tone of disdainful restrain?
ANYWAY - yes - I had a problem connecting too - and since the router netgear genie app suggests to hit the Opendns URL I posted, I also realise that automatically everyone else would do that before trying the usual Dr. Google approach, but finding no-help pages and irksome advice adds insult to injury - but to solution - yeah of course it was (as we all know) a netgear problem - and in this case a netgear application defect.
In netgear genie, when you log in to a router you can select to manually enter the IP number, however the IP number you enter is not then applied to all the other selections. The default will still apply and the default is the first router the genie finds on the LAN. SO you can end up with mixed routers being 'connected' or 'queried' by the genie. Pretty useless if you want to manage one beyond the initial one..
So if you have a multi-router LAN, the only way to get Genie to behave is to connect by cable directly to the specific router you are trying to manage, which is a royal pain in the butt. Also these days a lot of people are getting additional routers, wifi extenders etc - so that scenario of a multi-router environment is getting more common I think.
Connect direct by cable to the router you wish to manage and the non-help message "This device is registered with another OpenDns user" will go away if your setup is like mine.
I hope that helps someone. Regards, Kohlbook
