If there are no DNS server address fiields, on the WAN side or on the LAN side, then you cannot enter static DNS server addresses. Many ISPs deliver trimmed down devices these days to minimize their support efforts.

I have the same question.  So what are us Comcast users supposed to do? I also have an Arris TG862 and there is nowhere to enter DNS servers.  There is a page titled 'Local IP Configuration', with subsections for IPv4 and IPv6.  The IPv4 section has entries for gateway address, subnet mask, DHCP Beginning Address, and DHCP Ending Address.  I did other searching on this and some people suggested you could do something with the DHCP to get this to work.

Or do I need to buy a modem and/or router to be able to use openDNS with Comcast?  If so, do I need 2 devices - 1) a cable modem and 2) a wireless router; or can you get these in 1 device?  I want to cover mobile devices in my home as well.  I'm fine buying a new modem/router in order to use this, because then I won't have to pay the rental fee.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I have a comcast modem that they sent me saying it would improve my performance.  Once I got it and installed it I noticed that it had no DNS settings as well.  So what I did was to hook up my old router that already had everything set for OpenDNS as the only connection to the new Comcast router and pointed the old routers gateway to the comcast router.  My comcast router does allow me to restrict any other client than the other router I plugged in to.

I purchased an Arris version online to get rid of the monthly charge and to use OpenDNS.
