It seems that newer firmware of this router doesn't support a CLI. An option would be to flash it with an older ISP firmware or with an OEM firmware from Technicolor or generally with an alternative firmware as available. And configuring OpenDNS on the end devices instead of on the router is an option too.

Thanks rotblitz, appreciate the response. I'm not tech savvy enough for the flash approach so will go for the instal on as many end devices as I can. Thanks for your promt help.

I've found several ineffective solutions offered to this problem. Surely it can be solved?

    "Surely it can be solved?"

Apparently not really.  If you can't configure static DNS resolver addresses, you can't configure them.  So easy!

The solution is to get a more sophisticated router.

Many routers have omitted completely the ability to modify their DNS servers. The Technicolor-Tg587 appears to be one of them. You may wish to confirm this with Technicolor support. To configure DNS on your router, you will likely need to acquire a different router, unfortunately.

If you are a Windows user try with telnet.  I'm sure that with other OS there is a similar tool.

Telnet is not a Windows specific tool, but a general terminal emulation tool, available on all OSes.
