Adding OpenDNS IPs, is that enough ?

    Oops, lots of questions!

"And I have added the OpenDNS IPs 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220    Is that enough to have a basic security ??"

This depends on what you understand about "basic security".  As from your expectations, this doesn't seem to be enough, because it does not support time based content filtering and not content filtering in general as long as you don't maintain it at the dashboard.  It does support protection against phishing sites and some malware/botnet domains however.

"So if I lgin to our OpenDNS account and set time limits, will ttah work without installing software to each computer ?"

    Yes.

"Actually we tried this before using the Geenie software, but the time settings didnt work, it blocked on times that wasnt set."

Enabling Live Parental Controls with Genie is the only way to make scheduled content filtering work.  If it didn't work as expected, there was something wrong, e.g. wrong time set on the router or so.

"Im also concerned about he block setings, they are to general.  If I want to block certain sites, is that possible by URL or IP ?"

Sure.  With LPC enabled, login to your dashboard at https://netgear.opendns.com/ and add certain domain names to your "always block" list.  A DNS service like OpenDNS can block by domain name only, not by URL or IP address.

"I want to block Internet completely during certain times, is that possible ?"

As far as I know, this is not supported by this router.  And OpenDNS can't do it either, because they don't have any control over your internet connection.  Only your ISP and your router have.

"Can I block certain IPS or URLs during certain times ?"

With LPC enabled, you can block only categories during certain times, not certain domain names, and IP addresses and URLs not at all, as said.

"I cant find any settings for this."

    You know now why.

"Can I block certain devices (IPs) in my network during certain times ?"

As far as I know, this is not supported by your router.  This can be done by a capable router only, not by an external service like OpenDNS.

"Is there a Android App to manage all settings ?"

Yes, the Genie app from http://www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx and the browser app (Chrome) to manage your dashboard at https://netgear.opendns.com/

I found setting to completely tur off Wifi during a schedule after firmware update to the router.

    Going to try that.

I also did upload an image if my own to my account.

And added my own text for blocked sites.
Byt nothing seem to be blocked, so I never see if that works.

I even added a specific porn site to blockad sites, but its not blocked anyway...

    So something is wrong here...

And I dont understand the Bypass function.

Logged in to my openDNS account as default, I added two bypass accounts that are not restricted in any way.

But how are they activated ?

How do I use them ?

Do I have to be loged in at OpenDNS.com as that user for that users settings to be active ?

How will each person/computer in the household know if Im "Default" or a bypass user ?

Maybe you got the wrong dashboard?

LPC and OpenDNS Home are incompatible.  You can use either the one or the other, never mixed or both.

"And I dont understand the Bypass function."

Bypass accounts are supported only with LPC enabled.

"But how are they activated ?  How do I use them ?  Do I have to be loged in at OpenDNS.com as that user for that users settings to be active ?"

You need to login to these accounts with a program like Netgear Genie or the deprecated User Utility on the computer.  You do not login to a website, especially not at opendns.com.

"How will each person/computer in the household know if Im "Default" or a bypass user ?"

If you didn't login as a bypass user, you're automatically default user.

Btw, this router is a Netgear device, not an OpenDNS device.  You better find support for it here:

Sorry, but what does LPC stand for ?

I can logon on both links you provided....

    This is very confusing...

I noticed logged in at dashboard.opendns.com/settings , that it showed the wrong IP, so I updated that.
Now it shows my real IP, but does that change anything for the filtering ?

Using Dyndns update, does it require a client installed ?
But on the router or one of the PCs ?
If on a PC, what if that PC isnt on all the time ?

Can I on one account at opendns.com, have multiple networks, like one at home and one at my girlfriends house?

OK, Live Parental Controls by Netgear....

    But its still confusing...

I guess I installed LPC on a computer that I dont have anymore.
But I still use the same router (at my girlfriends house)
Should I install it again? I didnt like it, and I want a solution whitout any software preferably.

    Suddenly it started working :)
I did no change since yesterday...
Maybe it was the IP-update I did...

So now I tried High Filtering Level.
That blocks Facebook for example, and my premade text and image shows :) Great !
Some text in the message are still in English though....is that possible to change ?

About the category "Games", does that include online gaming like WOW, Minecraft and other popular titles ?
If not, how can I prevent online gaming ?
I can only add domains, not IPs of sites, is that correct ?

    About LPC
The only main difference I find ,is that its possible to set time blocks in LPC and make bypass accounts.
I still dont see how to use the bypass accounts anyway... (login where ??)
And I dont want to have software installed on my computer for this, much better its controlled by  the router (via your servers).

Any more differences that I missed ?

Will LPC still work (on the router), even if I dont have the software installed on my PC ?
I mean , are the settings from before still active, or are they only active if I install the software ?
If I click on "Parental Controls" in the router Admin Interface I only get redirected to http://www.netgear.com/lpc

To be able to "Bypass" I guess the software from Netgear has to be installed on all PCs ?
Is that correct ?  (Or only on those that I want to login for bypassing the filters ?)
If so, all thers without the software installed will be "default" with filters active ?!

    "

I say it again.  In case you have LPC enabled, your dashboard is only at https://netgear.opendns.com/ !!!
That said, go to https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ and delete the network from there.  This is incompatible with LPC!
You do not have to keep your IP address updated, because LPC works with the device ID, and you have to uninstall the Updater if you have installed it.

"Using Dyndns update, does it require a client installed ?
But on the router or one of the PCs ?
If on a PC, what if that PC isnt on all the time ?
    "

Only if you use a dynamic DNS service, then you must enable an update client, be it the one built-in in the router or a software on one PC.  You do not need this for LPC!

"Can I on one account at opendns.com, have multiple networks, like one at home and one at my girlfriends house?"

Yes, you can have different OpenDNS accounts for different locations (= different internet connections).  This can be either Netgear LPC or OpenDNS Home, but not mixed or in parallel for the same location, because these are not compatible, as I said already.

"I guess I installed LPC on a computer that I dont have anymore."

You cannot install LPC.  You can only enable it for a router with using the Netgear Genie program on a computer.

"But I still use the same router (at my girlfriends house)
Should I install it again? I didnt like it, and I want a solution whitout any software preferably.
    "

You need to do this for each router at the different location, of course.  How can one router "know" about another?  And you need a different OpenDNS account for each location, of course.

"So now I tried High Filtering Level.
That blocks Facebook for example, and my premade text and image shows :) Great !
Some text in the message are still in English though....is that possible to change ?
    "

Again, with LPC enabled your dashboard is only at https://netgear.opendns.com/ !
Delete the other network at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/

"About the category "Games", does that include online gaming like WOW, Minecraft and other popular titles ?"

Most likely yes.  Check it at the domain tagging system: https://community.opendns.com/domaintagging/

"If not, how can I prevent online gaming ?"

You add the related domain names to your "always block" list.

"I can only add domains, not IPs of sites, is that correct ?"  -  Yes.

"I still dont see how to use the bypass accounts anyway... (login where ??)
And I dont want to have software installed on my computer for this, much better its controlled by  the router (via your servers).
    "

You need to install a program on the computers you want to use with a bypass account.

"Any more differences that I missed ?"

Netgear LPC does not come with stats and logs.

"Will LPC still work (on the router), even if I dont have the software installed on my PC ?"

Yes, your default settings will take effect.

"I mean , are the settings from before still active, or are they only active if I install the software ?"

Yes, your default settings will take effect.

"To be able to "Bypass" I guess the software from Netgear has to be installed on all PCs ?"

No, "only on those that I want to login for bypassing the filters".

"all thers without the software installed will be "default" with filters active ?!"  -  Yes.

Any more dozens of questions?  Keep them coming!
