I can't see how OpenDNS would have an impact on devices on your internal network. If you temporarily switch to another DNS service do the devices start working again?

Facing this problem, did you configure the OpenDNS resolver addresses on the LAN (DHCP) side of the router or directly on the computer?  This definitely impacts or breaks local name resolution, because you send all lookups to OpenDNS which cannot resolve your internal network names. The same would be the case for any other DNS service.  This is unrelated to OpenDNS (FamilyShield), but purely related to the way you configured it.

    Your options are:

    • Configure the OpenDNS resolver addresses only on the WAN side of the router.
    • Else add entries to your local hosts file with the internal IP addresses and the network names of your (printer) devices.
    • Use the IP addresses of your devices instead of their network names.
