New Comcast/Xfinity Router configurable?
I have a new cable modem/wireless router from comcast to support their X1 platform. Accessing it via the browser it looks like it is a Cisco DPC3941T. I can see where the DNS settings are located, but there doesn't appear to be any way to edit them and they are currently set to the comcast default DNS's. Is there a trick to changing these to the OpenDNS settings? I would rather configure the router than the many internet capable devices we have!
Thank You!

"Is there a trick to changing these to the OpenDNS settings?"
Most likely not. ISP supplied routers almost have trimmed down functions to minimize support efforts for them. Your best bet is to plug another router behind it where you connect your devices to and where you can configure different DNS server addresses. Alternatively try with flashing the router with the Cisco OEM firmware or with an alternative firmware like Tomato or DD-WRT.

Hello Irker!
The following document shows that you might be able to configure your router for OpenDNS on page 48 & 49: http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/userguides2/tp-00102.pdf
However, as rotblitz noted, there are ISPs that do not allow customized DNS settings. Comcast/Xfinity seems to be one of these ISPs. -
Hi Irker,
Some of the new Comcast / Xfinity routers have new firmware install that restricts access to DNS settings. In such a case, you can either configure your devices individually (https://support.opendns.com/forums/21618384) and point them to the OpenDNS resolvers, or configure a second router (https://support.opendns.com/forums/21618374) to broadcast your home internet, and user the first router as a modem for internet connection.
Some users on this forum have also had success using third party firmware as rotblitz have mentioned, so if you are interested you can take a look at those as well.
