so i cannot use my isp with this DNS service? i have been having terrible with the service for a while. it's always saying public network when hardwired

What troubles exactly are you having with OpenDNS? Please post a screenshot (using the Attach file link at the bottom of this page, not a third party sharing site) of the message you are seeing that mentions "public network". Have you followed the OpenDNS setup instructions that begin on the homepage? Did you have any problems completing them? If so, what were those problems and where in the process did they occur? Again, screenshots of your actual error messages would help.
