New categories can be suggested at the bottom of this page.

And according to this blog, this falls under the Tasteless category, and related sites are found there already. So you know what to block now.

Thanks for your helpful responses, and link to the blog page. I will try using the 'Tasteless' category in our filters, hopefully that will help block many of these sites

Actually it looks as though I already had 'Tasteless' filter on. It doesn't seem very effective, many of the pro-ana sites load without restriction.

So best is to just submit all of them for the Tasteless category:

You can submit 1000 at a time. :)

The process of domain tagging and approval seems to take quite a while, and will not always get an approved block; what one finds unacceptable another may not etc.  I understand that it's a community activity, but I need some fast results - other than turning the internet off in our house, not a very practical solution.

Is there a way of extending the number of maximum domains in personal web-filtering?

Best is you go for local content filtering if you have so specific requirements.
Blocking with the hosts file is very effective and a good starting point.

I've suggested a new Category that would be just easier to tag for people sharing this not-so-specific requirement. IMHO, there are some people interested and focused in spotting these sites, but without energy to wandering through pages of suicide, mutilation, and any other than people doesn't like, then tag sites like wikipedia or msn.com on "Tasteless".

I think a new category called "Eating Disorders" (better defined than horror, mutilation, and the grotesque [?]), is worth, necessary and would be just easier to people like mushromm_daddy (and me, just another daddy), helping each other to spot these kind of sites following the same process as other categories more specific, like Lingerie is not the same as Nudity or Porn (another example Ecommerce, not the same as Auctions, or Business; another one Chat different than Instant Messaging).

I'm making a proposal for a category for Eating Disorders, rather than mixing with unrelated stuff, this way we could help each other to spot these kind of sites more easily: https://support.opendns.com/entries/34526220-New-tagging-Category-Eating-Disorders-Is-Tasteless-a-mix-of-orange-and-apples-plus-bananas-plus-mang

"(better defined than horror, mutilation, and the grotesque [?])"

This is a fragment of the definition only.  The full definition is:

    Tasteless

Sites that contain information on such subjects as mutilation, torture, horror, or the grotesque. Includes Pro-Anorexia and Pro-Suicide related sites.

As rotblitz suggested they are best placed in Tasteless, there are many subjects that could be split down into individual categories but that would make the moderation process even longer.

How many of these sites do you have that need blocking?

I sent several pro ana websites to OpenDNS staff to review on. The categorised the pro ana websites on my list as Tasteless.
