Categorise URL shorteners to be allowed or blocked

Well, URL shorteners are amost not categorized yet, generally.  Because behind a short URL (redirection) could be anything.  For the time being you can block or allow the one or other service or even all of "ly" very efficiently with your blacklist and whitelist.

But you are right, a category "URL shorteners" does make sense.

"I think a category of URL shortening would help distinguish the difference, so these sites can be allowed and the resultant full URL can be filtered if necessary."

This doesn't sound right.  Categories serve only for blocking, not for whitelisting, at least with OpenDNS Home Basic and VIP.
