Allow domains to be added (monitored) by URL
Here's my use case for this suggestion:
I have a modem that supports DynDns updating, so that my URL is constantly pointing to my (Dynamic) IP address. I do not want to install an OS dependent client, as that would require a box to be sitting on my network, to always be on (Drawing Power), and to have the client running. If I were able to point OpenDNS to my URL, I could rely on my router to keep the URL up-to-date, without the need for an additional machine on my network.
This has been discussed, however with no authoritative answer. Please consider offering URL based monitoring to allow easier setup for those in a similar situation.
Best Regards,
DDNS & OpenDNS User.

"my URL is constantly pointing to my (Dynamic) IP address."
A URL cannot point to an IP address. Just a domain name can. Is this what you mean by "URL"?
"I do not want to install an OS dependent client"
You don't need to. You use a router where you can select DNS-O-Matic or "user defined" as service provider, and let DNS-O-Matic do the propagation.
"This has been discussed, however with no authoritative answer."
It has been authoritatively answered in the old forum or old idea bank. This was possible earlier, but OpenDNS disabled this due to security reasons. Someone else could update your OpenDNS network with any believable IP address then, e.g. users in your network wanting to circumvent OpenDNS. Therefore OpenDNS allow updates only from the source where the IP address is to be used from, not from any other source.

"I'm assuming that there is a list of routers that allow this type of configuration?"
I do not know such a list. However, most alternative firmwares support any DDNS providers, e.g. OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined". And there are also many routers, almost not ISP supplied, supporting this with their OEM firmware already.
What exact model is your router?

"I also have an old Linksys WRT54G that has DDWRT firmware currently installed. I'm betting that'll allow me to use one of these options..."
Definitely. See http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/OpenDNS
"I have a Asus RT-N56U and a Netgear R7000"
Asus RT-N56U: "RT-N56U supports the ASUS DDNS service." This is not useful....
Netgear R7000: This seems to support Netgear no-ip, no-ip.com and dyndns.org only, so not useful either.

Based on your subscription, you may be searching for an alternative to DynDNS. As a recursive DNS provider, OpenDNS does not have the ability to update your do mains or URLs to be monitored. The use of our updater client is to update the IP address registered for your OpenDNS account's filtering settings. You may consider no-ip.org or other DynDNS alternatives for a dynamic domain or hostname; however, OpenDNS does not provide a comparable service.
