I agree with herophantom.  Instead of another client, why can't I specify the fqdn of the target ip address, like foobar.homeip.net?

In my case, my firewall updates dyndns, and in another case,  I want my Mofi modem to reference opendns to block streaming of video to that device as that router is on a cell stick and the data rates are very large.  In fact, one kid just watched a movie and it cost me $80 as I thought I had Netflix blocked.  I guess I didn't.  :)

"why can't I specify the fqdn of the target ip address, like foobar.homeip.net?"

This is intentional, because of security concerns.  This FQDN could be maintained by anyone.  OpenDNS insists in the updates coming from the IP address the network is to be updated to.  This is the only authentic way to ensure that the right IP address is being used.

Is there any way I can leverage OpenDNS and using a mobile router to control the data flow?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Not sure what you're asking for, but let me guess.

There is no way to control data flow with a recursive DNS service which OpenDNS is.
Also, regarding a "mobile router", OpenDNS Home is a DNS service for networks you own, not for your devices in other networks.

We have mainly mobile devices only at home (iPhone, iPad, and network media players that we reach from outside during our trips etc.) and there is no way to install any software onto them to update our dynamically changing IP address. We have a working dyndns account that is automatically updated by the router regularly at each change of our WAN IP change.

The only way we could register our network is to set a named network address into opendns (like abc.dyndns.org). Will that be ever possible? It would be great to see the network use of our child / ourselves.

    "Will that be ever possible?"

I thought this has been answered above.  It seems you missed to read it.  Again, so no, this is apparently not planned, because your updates must come from the IP address the network is to be updated to.

OK, thanks, I understand. In our case then this measurement will not be available without having a running computer that updates the WAN IP of our network on all changes.

Well, many routers (maybe with alternative firmware) and other devices have built-in update clients eligible for updating also OpenDNS.  First check your router.
