Slingplayer - block all ads
Hi.
Could OpenDNS please add a feature that would allow ad blocking in Slingplayer?
A few months ago an aggressive ad insertion campaign was initiated that forces ads on all Slingbox users.
Thanks,
Bill

OpenDNS is a DNS service, it only knows about domain lookups that are sent to it, it knows nothing about web pages, or any sort of content, including ads that might be embedded on webpages, in apps, or on devices such as a slingplayer. It doesn't even know where the domain lookups are coming from, only that something in your domain requested a lookup of a particular domain.
The only practical way you could do this with OpenDNS is to identify the domains that the slingplayer is using for it's adds, and then block that domain or domains. However, It's likely that as the ads change, the domains that those ads use changes as well.

OpenDNS does not offer an ad blocking category as we are not an ad blocking provider. You can view all domains requested for your network by enabling stats and locating possible ad domains to add to your custom block list with the steps at https://support.opendns.com/entries/34435010-Getting-Started-Blocking-Allowing-Specific-Domains-with-Whitelist-Blacklist; however, there will be no ad blocking categories on OpenDNS.

Hi Matt and Alexander,
Thank you both for your help and suggestions. I hear you and understand.
After I posted this request, I started testing OpenDNS features as described in the various support/help guides and your posts. I now have a better understanding of what OpenDNS can do, when configured correctly.
I am new to OpenDNS but I already appreciate the protection and options OpenDNS offers. I look forward to learning more about these options.
Thank you.
