OpenDNS integration in Fritz!Box routers
Dear OpenDNS-Team,
I would like to ask you for assistance to improve your service with „FritzBox“ routers made by AVM.
As pointed out in the linked discussion, the firmware for these routers asks for a „Domainname“ when configuring DynamicDNS. Lots of users relay on this implemented DynamicDNS feature, so that the router can inform your servers, when it gets a new IP (happens all 24h). Using this feature is also way more comfortable then running the „OpenDNS Updater“…
In the FritzBox UI there are several DynmaicDNS suppliers listed. Since OpenDNS is not a real DynamicDNS supplier, it is not listed there yet, so one has to use the user-defined setup, which is asking for „Domainname“, as stated above.
Since users of OpenDNS are usually not having a domain, they want to keep reachable, they can’t enter anything there. This leads to the issue:
With no or a wrong domain name entered in this field, the FritzBox log gets filled with errors, about the missing/wrong domain. Regardless of this errors, the IP gets successful updated with OpenDNS, which is fine :)
What is bothering us users are the „errors“ in the log…
I already asked AVM for assistance and asked if they could left out the „Domainname“ field when using OpenDnS.
They are willing to care about this issue. To implement OpenDNS as a predefined service in their DynamicDNS settings, they said they will need so information from you for their settings screen.
It would be really kind, if you could get in touch with AVM and deliver the needed information, so that FritzBox users can easily configure their router to inform OpenDNS about the routers IP, without producing unnecessary log files.
Thanks in advance!
Greetings!

That should be easy and does not require any change in AVM's firmware or at OpenDNS. It's up to you to use it.
Try with the following domain name: myip.opendns.com
A DNS lookup to this domain returns the source IP address (in case of using OpenDNS' resolvers), and this is what the AVM DDNS check routine does... -
It is listed since a year already! https://support.opendns.com/forums/21619474-Individual-Router-Configurations
The article in detail: https://support.opendns.com/entries/67988140-Fritzbox-7390
Why did you think it is not listed?

Well, there's much more you can do on those AVM FRITZ!Boxes in regards to OpenDNS:
- Block all outgoing port 53 (DNS) traffic to prevent users from manually changing the DNS servers on their devices.
Internet > Filter > Listen > Netzwerkanwendungen > Netzwerkanwendung hinzufügen
Internet > Filter > Zugangsprofile > Standard > Netzwerkanwendung sperren - Update OpenDNS through DNS-O-Matic (https://www.dnsomatic.com/):
Internet > Freigaben > Dynamic DNS
- Block all outgoing port 53 (DNS) traffic to prevent users from manually changing the DNS servers on their devices.
