@neil1101 No, it's per user, just as it says. If it was per network or IP address the phrase would include that and not user.

I'm not sure I quite understand the per user part.

Is it for the users that login, or per user/device on the network?

Don't know what a user is?  This is someone with a head, and ideally with two arms and two legs, just like you, and using your internet connection.  So it's about the number of persons living in your household and using the internet, therefore it is called user.  What's so difficult here?

Also, I cannot find this "1 user x $19.95 / user / year".  As far as I can see, OpenDNS VIP costs $19.95 per household per year.

Rotblitz, the poor guy just asked a question. There's no need to be so condescending. You owe him an apology.

Currently - I am not seeing any value-add by going Open DNS VIP. All it gives is supposedly 25 additional domains to black or white list respectively. Retention of year logs - has hardly much of a value.

In my home setup I have a modem -> router -> devices. Within the router I have VLANs tagged. 1. Streaming devices 2. iOT devices 3. PCs 4. Roaming. 5. Peripherals - printer, VOIP, etc.

I was hoping Open DNS would allow me, at least in VIP package to add networks other than the standard WAN network. This way, I would have been able to create separate web content filter criteria for my VLANs. This is not the case.

I also happen to have Umbrella which protects all my PCs, laptops, smart-phones. However, as they have stopped supporting smart phones and thus the tablets once again the value of Umbrella and its $20/yearly seems hardly justified.
