For any matters of Google content filtering use Google SafeSearch. With OpenDNS you can block Google more or less only as a whole.

OpenDNS as DNS service only sees domains, not pictures or any other web objects. Therefore you can block only domains.

To add to rotblitz's answer, Google Images does not load those images from other domains, in fact it is embedded into the HTML for most browsers using a data URI.  This means the image information is actually part of the HTML markup for the page and not something we can block without blocking Google Images entirely.  Bing (on the other hand) has choosen to host potentially explicit thumbnails from "explicit.bing.net" and we block that domain under the appropriate categories.

"potentially explicit thumbnails from "explicit.bing.net" and we block that domain under the appropriate categories."

"Adult Themes" is just right for this domain. Pornography and Nudity categories is overdone and not appropriate, definitely. You also say "potentially" which is true for any domain.. This indicates that this domain does not concentrate in any way on these two categories only. OpenDNS should leave it with the users to add it to the "always block" list, as they deem.

The categories were set after discussion with Bing.  They self indicated that the domain should be categorized under those adult categories.  Anything that is definitely nudity or pornography is served from that domain as well as anything their categorizes believe to be.  My use of "potentially" was to indiciate it could be wrong, but better to err on the side of caution on that.

Can't you guys ask the same from Google? I'm sure all users on OpenDNS would be all happy to sign a petition if that is needed,

And again, Google SafeSearch is the only and right tool to go with. Why would you want another service covering this?

I've researched and posted about this extensively, and Rotblitz is correct: Google SafeSearch is the way to go.

And for those who suggest OpenDNS petitions Google: with all due respect to the OpenDNS organization and its family of users, do you really think Google views us as *that* important??

If this is your home, and you are exercising some level of content filtering, you ought to be able to apply SafeSearch to the desktops/laptops within your network.  And of course, you'll need to lock down ADMIN access on those devices, otherwise the user can simply override your router DNS settings.

Now that does mean tablets/smartphones and other outside devices are not covered; perhaps Umbrella is a way to go.

Thank you for the info; figured it'll need to be filtered 'from within' Google.. but, probably it'll only work while searching when logged into the Google account.

If you read the related Google answer pages, no, you can make it permanent per end device, independent from who is logged in.

    For example https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/3220640?hl=en&rd=1.

Tnx rotblitz, just read your reply!.. I've given up on OpenDNS, due to speed and security issues; also because the lists with 'reported' sites were all out-of-whack seemingly due to random users spamming the categories with 100s (and 1000s?) of sites that had nothing to do with said category (IIRC porn, or erotic, or whatever it was called list/category had dozens and dozens of all different sites listed under it.. when I tried to do a little searching and filtering - and many from the same user, perhaps even like an automated bot spamming the lists). Aanyway, still a good community to follow, thanks again.

When millions start banning google, such as I have done, then they(the ones in bed with the NSA) will still never change..... in other words...write em off.

    @data-inn
That was pretty off-topic. Just to recall, the question was "How to block images with nude content on google image search?"

How can duckduckgo.com block nude content on Google images search?  It can't.  :(
But yes, they also offer a Safe Search option, as most search engines do. However, their search results are not really relevant. Not a good search engine... :(

Hi everyone As a novice and a concerned parent I find it disturbing that popular sites like Google and You tube have a policy that asks you to sign in to turn on the safe search. The default and safest for Families should be Safe Seach is always on and then You should sign in to turn off. But I gather than money is more important than community values. The sexualisation of the internet does not safeguard our children and is more favoured to those who expect it to be available all the time. For Adults who know what is right and what is wrong that's fine but kids should not find these images accidentally. I had hoped the Live parental controls would have enable googl image search to block nude and porno images but I was wrong , having to to resort to blocking the domain googl.com.au\search?q= which blocks 95% of images but not all. After reading all the posts I concede that blocking Google entirely is the only way. But how many other sites do we have to worry about? Thanks Tony

Yes, exactly this is what is actually supported by Google.  So use it instead of asking for it!

I am going to close this thread as it has gotten off-topic.  The question of blocking inappropriate images from Google searches is addressed above.  If you have other questions, please feel free to open a new topic.
