I am unable to put my computer in standby mode

    This was probably a situation of coincidences. You got the solution by the system: "The service "Microsoft .net framework v1.1.4322 update is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again.". Why didn't you simply follow this, but uninstalled the Update instead?

    What Windows version are you using?

    I couldn't figure out how. Windows XP I don't understand how to set this up fully and the videos I watch didn't help.

    You open the services control panel (services.msc), and stop the Microsoft .NET Framwork service(s).

    If you are constantly having problems with the OpenDNS Updater, try this instead: http://updater.marc-hoersken.de/

    Ah, it seems you mean OpenDNS?

    Well, first configure the OpenDNS resolver addresses, either on the router, or on the computer: https://store.opendns.com/start/
    This is to ensure your DNS lookups are sent to OpenDNS, not to the DNS service you've used before, like your ISP's.

    Then go to your dashboard https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ to add a network with your public IP address, and to configure things like content filtering, security settings, stats and more.

    Then you install the updater, maybe the one from http://updater.marc-hoersken.de/
    (An Updater is only to report your changing IP address information to OpenDNS, so that OpenDNS can associate your DNS lookups with you and can do the content filtering, collecting stats and more for you. The Updater itself is not involved else, especially not in content filtering and such.)

    That's it! And please no special exercises any longer by trying things not being part of the instructions. These make it worse unless you're a geek and know exactly what you do.

    To be perfectly clear, an update from MS for .NET waiting to be installed (or the service being stuck looking for an update) has absolutely nothing to do with using OpenDNS.  Not sure why you relate these two things.

I'm still trying to figure it out and don't understand it fully. I think I will look elsewhere for help. Thanks for your time.

    Thank you rotblitz - That helped, some. I'll try the other updater. Before I was getting an error message about conflicting IP's (I think that is what it was)

    rotblitz -OK, I have a net gear router. The first set up URL just sits and sits, nothing happens. When I use the second listed URL, it doesn't give me the option to configure it - it is like it is already configured and is asking for username and password. When I put in what I set up it says failed. Do you think that my router needs reset or something?

    I have not a Netgear router...
    If you have one, do you have it flashed with or activated the LPC (Live Parental Control) firmware, or do you run the normal OEM firmware there?

I would not know what instructions require to enter a URL at all...
    Or you possibly don't know what a URL is. And please, look into the manual for your router to find out things yourself instead of asking other people to read your router's manual for you...

    We could get the impression that you're unable to read... ;-)

    Another idea would be to simply attach a screen shot, so that we see what you mean. Thankfully, this forum has this useful feature...

    This could become a kind of show-stopper. Check if your DNS IP address and your web IP address are really different:

    DNS IP address, execute in a command prompt window: nslookup myip.opendns.com.
    Web IP address, visit this site: http://myip.dnsomatic.com/

    And yes, @maintenance is right, if you have incomplete system patches waiting, get them completed before you try anything else. With Windows XP simply visit the update site http://update.microsoft.com/ and follow the instructions there. This has nothing to do with OpenDNS.
