dashboard stats for domains
When I look at my dashboard stats and then select the "domains" drop down .. I see the top entry is
*.localdomain has like 35,000 and everything after that is very small -- such as the 2nd entry is *.dyndns.org with
only 59 (note this is for a single day view for 9/4/2013 (today)
My question is .. does the *.localdomain high count indiciate a problem? I searched the forums
before posting this and saw that it might be pop-up ads possibly.. but I would think those would be blocked
by a filter? - unless I need to do some better filtering?

This looks like internal name resolution attempts being sent outside to OpenDNS which is not able to resolve this.
You'll want to configure the OpenDNS resolver addresses only on the WAN side of your router. If you can't do that, add localdomain to your VPN exceptions list.

yup - thats what it was .. I found out that my named (bind) Fedora dns server was not configured correctly.
I did not include internal networks.. I spent abit of time on it and corrected the configuration - my dashboard stats
went down "dramatically" probably my network traffic too! note to myself - look at the documentation and example
configs for named dns first :-)
