It's just another "Windows Annoyance", so I just dismiss the msg for the time being. They'll get around to fixing it - sometime.

    Win7 systems... see attached.

Thank you for your replies. I have enough annoyances in my life at the moment. It seems that they have not gotten around to properly fixing it since 2009.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

"... I have enough annoyances in my life at the moment..."

Don't we all. There used to be a site for it:

"Annoyances.org is temporarily down for maintainance and will return shortly."

Yet another one... Life goes on...

    Hi all,

This is due to the OS calling out to the domain ipv6.microsoft.com. OpenDNS is trying to resolve it, but the domain does not respond to our resolvers, which causes Windows to alert the user that they may need to update their login credentials, because it's assuming you haven't connected to the Internet.

The issue should be fixed now, please flush your browser and DNS cache by following the instructions below:

    http://www.opendns.com/support/article/67

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

    Hello Anthony,

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I have completed the above and am once again using OpenDNS.

I do appreciate your time effort to explain the cause as well as provide the solution and instructions .

Completed a fresh windows 7 64 bit install today. Currently getting this error again. Followed above kb articles and was greeted by the same eroor. More annoying than anything.

    Any other fix?

Yes, as proposed in the other thread https://support.opendns.com/entries/22478134-additional-log-on-may-be-required-
add ipv6.msftncsi.com and maybe ipv6.microsoft.com to the VPN exceptions under Advanced Settings at your dashboard, and flush your caches.

Or disable NCSI as proposed at the top of this thread here.

This seems to be getting worse, I'm getting the popup every 10 to 15 seconds with the browser already open.

This is just to distracting. I have to disabled OpenDNS till this is resolved, if ever.

added add ipv6.msftncsi.com to my routers blocked ip list and seems to have resolved the issue.
