opendns not working, linksys WAG160N
there are no instructions for my router model (WAG160N) but there are generic Linksys instructions at https://store.opendns.com/familyshield/setup/device/linksys
It is possible to follow those instructions, i.e. I can go into setup -> basic setup, and on that page I can set "Static DNS 1" and "Static DNS 2" to the usual values. But then filtering doesn't work, e.g. I can see http://www.internetbadguys.com/
On my router status, "Internet connection" gives:
Login Type: | RFC 2516 PPPoE |
Interface: | Connected |
IP Address: | 14.2.18.130 |
Subnet Mask: | 255.255.255.255 |
Default Gateway: | 203.16.215.199 |
DNS 1: | 208.67.222.123 |
DNS 2: | 208.67.220.123 |
DNS 3: | 192.231.203.132 |
WINS: | --- |
p.s. Even though I didn't need to do it on my old router, I cleared my DNS cache with "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" in Linux Ubuntu 12. I don't wish to clear my browser cache.

You forgot to fill DNS 3 with an OpenDNS resolver address. This 192.231.203.132 is not from OpenDNS.
FamilyShield doesn't have more than two addresses, so you must repeat one, and if the router refuses this, enter an invalid resolver address or switch to normal OpenDNS which comes with four addresses.

Sorry for the delay. I put that modem away for a couple of months and now I'm trying again.
Adding a 3rd DNS has no effect. I put in 208.67.220.222 as Static DNS 3. but when I go to "status", I get the same result as above. I also get the same thing if I enter 0.0.0.0 as Static DNS 3.
The IP address that does appear for DNS 3 when I check the (192.231.203.132) belongs to my ISP. So it seems that Static DNS 3 is being ignored, and being replaced by one supplied by my ISP. (Unless I am accidentally providing it myself, but I can't see where). I am wondering if this is a bug in the Linksys router.
Any other suggestions? What do you mean by "switch to normal OpenDNS which comes with four addresses" ?

"I am wondering if this is a bug in the Linksys router."
Yes, most likely. Try with another firmware version.
"What do you mean by "switch to normal OpenDNS which comes with four addresses" ?"
You used the OpenDNS FamilyShield (http://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/opendns-familyshield/) addresses (*.123) which come with preconfigured content filtering. Normal OpenDNS Home (http://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/opendns-home/) resolver addresses (*.222, *.220) do not come with preconfigured content filtering but allow full configuration via the dashboard.
