    Indeed, you cannot register private IP addresses with OpenDNS, just public IP addresses.  If your ISP assigns you a private IP address, you're out of luck using some enhanced features of OpenDNS like configurable content filtering and.stats and logs.

    In order to use OpenDNS, you would have to use an internet connection with a publicly routable IP address.

    Yes, find your public IP address, not the "address of the router".  You may indeed have a normal public IP, you just entered the wrong one.

    See the top center of the page at your Dashboard https://dashboard.opendns.com/   which will show you your current public IP.

    i entered the public ip and it said "Network already exists"

    Maybe your ISP is using double NAT. :/
