How to block youtube?
My filter is set on "high", yet youtube is not blocked. I want to block youtube.

Where was it said that an ipad / ios device was being used? The original post says that its not being blocked. I'm having the same issue of not being able to block their domain. I've added all the filters and even flushed out my dns, still am able to access it easily like nothing was even done.

Well, as advised in the other threads I linked to, did you visit http://welcome.opendns.com/ on your device to see if you use OpenDNS at all? If not, nothing can be blocked, of course. You must use OpenDNS to use its features.

I too have added the youtube.com domain to the block list. All of my pc's DNS queries are correctly going via opendns, as the web filter is working for other sites in the block list, on the pc's. It would seem youtube.com is the only website where on any pc, it can still be accessed. This happens with any brand of web browser. We are not using ANY mobile devices. Only Windows PC's.

I've tried a lot of things over the last week or so and haven't had much luck myself. However if you apply the custom filter of "streaming video" or "video stream" whichever it is, this will eventually block the YouTube domain. My thought and assumptions from what I've found on the Internet is that YouTube indeed has a very ridiculous TTL as well as a numerous amount of web addresses / domain names. I really think this hinders the blocking effect of opendns at least to what I found unless you just block the whole entire in a whole (I.e Video Streaming). I'm not sure what manner you're needing to apply this block, but blocking video streaming finally gave me the results that I wanted even if it did disrupt other websites. :/
Other thoughts: perhaps if we were to find all ip's that resolve to YouTube and their domains this could possibly give some type of resolution that we're looking for. -

It seems your problem is of a different nature. It should be possible to block YouTube with just youtube.com in the "always block" list.Post the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here:
nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup youtube.com.
nslookup www.youtube.com.

Btw, www.youtube.com is an alias of youtube-ui.l.google.com, so if you have google.com explicitly whitelisted, YouTube can never be blocked with the blacklist. Whitelisting has always priority over blacklisting. Is this your problem?

Having similar problem. I took youtube.com off of the whitelist, and its still not being blocked. Other sites are being blocked.
I do have translate.google.com on whitelist, and drive.google.com. Would this be the cause?

YouTube is clearly blocked by category for you as the returned IP address 67.215.65.130 (hit-adult.opendns.com) clearly shows.

Most likely not in your case, because www.youtube.com is clearly blocked for you, as I said.
