OpenDNS Updater for windows won't let me log in.
I just started with OpenDNS. Using Windows XP with a dynamic IP address at home. The Updater is installed, but won't let me log in. It gives me this message when I try to log in: There was an error verifying username and password.

Then try a manual update from your browser on the same computer to see what happens:
https://updates.opendns.com/nic/update?hostname=YourNetworkLabel

I have this same problem. Changed my password to eliminate an @, still compliant with the rules. I'm logged in to the website, but still get the attached error.

The error message indicates that the Updater is prevented from reaching out to the internet. Ensure that your built-in Windows firewall or another app doesn't block the Updater from doing its job.
Use the same credentials for the Updater as for the website login. If you have a very old account, use the user name, not the e-mail address.
If you have too much troubles with this Updater, simply try with another, e.g. https://updater.marc-hoersken.de/ or with your router or other device having a built-in DDNS update client and supporting one of OpenDNS, DNS-O-Matic or "user defined".

Resurrecting this because I just had the same problem and this came up as one of the top options in the search results.
The solution for me was confirming my email address.
I had forgotten to do so, and could log into the web portal without doing so, but the Updator app kept giving me the "Incorrect username or password" error as Jeff8520. Verifying my email resolved this.

I am using XP and had the same problem, I could log in to Dashboard but couldnt login the Updater. What worked for me was
a Winsock refresh. Now updater works fine. I guess i had some corrupted files or settings. All is well now. Solved.
I tried Updater on another xp machine and it worked fine. So that made me suspect my machine was the problem. Anyway the WinSock refresh did the trick. All is well now

Quoting another user.. "Resurrecting this because I just had the same problem and this came up as one of the top options in the search results."
I am having the same issue, except it is on an windows 7 machine that is fully up to date and I have allowed it through my antivirus software's firewall. But it still fusses and states "There was an error verifying username and password" Title of error Box is OpenDNS Updater V2.2.1. This is a fresh install of open dns -
Same here.
Having the same issue on a WinXP machine.
On mine, using win10 I can logging normally, the problem is that in my daughters that has winXP I always get the "there was an error verifying username and password" error.
I can't use mine because I'm always behind the company VPN.
Any suggestions?

Win 7 32 bit. Old, old early signup.
Same problem on the machine and on the router which has an opendns updater built in.
I think it is a problem on opendns's end, not our issue. Likely people who solved this have opened a new opendns account with a different email.
Hopefully, I am wrong, but don't see how. I an attached to my username of last 30 years.
