How to 'undo' this?
I want to 'disconnect' my Netgear router from OpenDNS - it is causing a world of problems. How do I do this? I didn't find an 'off button' or disable option.

You're right, this should be part of the FAQ at https://support.opendns.com/entries/21804554-Frequently-Asked-Questions-
It seems you login to your router at http://routerlogin.net/ and disable LPC.
-
Yes, you may disable the LPC service as mentioned by rotblitz, and the instructions are on the FAQ at https://support.opendns.com/entries/21804554-Frequently-Asked-Questions-.
To have your NETGEAR LPC device removed from your account, you have to open a support ticket and we will do it for you.
-
You run the Management Utility to turn LPC off.

"It downgraded my router to the old firmware"
Sure, this is what you wanted to achieve. "I need to turn this off." You got to the original OEM firmware therefore.
"and will not upgrade again."
Hard to believe. You can flush your (unspecified) router with any firmware you like. Refer to the Netgear support site.
-
Downgrading my routers firmware was NOT what I wanted to do or achieve at all. I only wanted to temporally disable the Parental Controls because it was blocking a site I knew to be valid and needed to get to. Now all my settings are gone, the backup I had would not work and the USB Readyshare is no longer an option.
And now when i press the search for updates it tells me there are none. I am using a NetGear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700.
If you can point me to a forum that will describe how to "flush" it with the latest firmware I would be grateful.
-
Sorry, I meant "flash", not "flush".
Regarding the OEM firmware, you'll want to read http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23856
Regarding LPC, see http://netgear.com/lpc

The right link for LPC seems now to be: http://www.netgear.com/LPC
And yes, you'll want to open a case with Netgear. This issue has nothing to do with OpenDNS.

As a follow-up, log into your router http://routerlogin.net/. And set your DNS servers not use OpenDNS. In my router that is found under Advanced:Setup:Internet Setup and selecting the option under Domain Name Server (DNS) Address for Get Automatically from ISP.

This parental control application through OpenDns creates too many problems. I have a Netgear R7000, and is impossible to recover the router after loosing the internet due to a modem issues.
After restoring the modem connection, I am not able to restore the internet on the router. I wanted to change theDNS ips but you can't change it unless you are online. There is no clear instructions on how to disable the parental control. If you do not have internnet access pretty much you stuck.
-
Read above or send an email to support@opendns.com to have the router removed. You can disable LPC on your own with the Genie; however, we would need to remove it from your account.
-
I read this entire thread and all of the "as described above" comments, however, when I click the Parental Controls link in the router admin page, it just opens the opendns live parental controls page. There is no option to disable LPC on that page. Please provide clear instructions on where to disable LPC. Furthermore, I don't want to remove my device from LPC, I simply want to disable it temporarily as "described above".
-
To disable the LPC settings without removing it's registration, this would need to be done from the Genie app (http://www.netgear.com/genie) rather than the web interface to the router. They're both called the Genie and this is a common point of confusion.

I have netgear WNR 1000V3. I added Opendns sometime ago, but we found it was blocking some sites that we consider legit. I tried to set custom settings, then I tried the check box for no filtering. But Opendns was still blocking the sites I wanted. In my version of Genie, there was no option to disable. I was about to try uninstalling Genie to get rid of Opendns, but I decided to try one more thing. It was the information below from opendns that finally helped.
