Bypass account/software not working
Hi all- I am using opendns with a net gear router. Running OSX Mavericks.I have the strongest filtering setting and am maintain a white/blacklist..and this all works fine (keeps my kid safe, .etc). I, of course, want unrestricted internet, so I have a bypass account set up as "dad" (that's me) that has no restrictions set on it. I run the user utility, login to it and everything is fine (no restrictions/blocked sites). About an hour later, the bypass account/software no longer work (I get blocked). The only way to get it working again is to log on to netgear.opendns.com, delete my "dad" bypass account, then re-create it, then re-login with the user utility. This is a real pain...is the user utility/bypass account system just not working/buggy, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Thank you for your response. I understand the 1 hour time limit--that makes sense. But no, relogging in using the user utility or even exiting it, and restarting it all do not work. I must log on to netgear.opendns.com, delete my bypass account, recreate it, then rerun the user utility software for it all to work.
Thanks kindly for any help or suggestions.

It may be that your bypass configurations are out of sync in some way. You may try with performing the steps described in this thread by an OpenDNS employee:

"the user bypass utility for mac , its not there with net gear genie and LPC manager"
Yes, it doesn't seem to be: https://support.opendns.com/entries/25041155-Where-is-the-user-utility-to-bypass-on-Mac-OS-Also-Linux-

Hello. I started this thread a while back. I still have no luck with the LPC user utility on OSX Mavericks. In order for the bypass to work, I have to log on to the netgear.opendns site, delete my bypass account, re-add it, then re-run the LPC user utility. This is the only way I can get it to work. I foliowed rotblitz's 11/17 suggestion as well. No luck. It is a serious pain-in-the-neck having to do this.
I'd also like to confirm that indeed there is no bypass option in the Netgenie software for osx.
It seems that Mac support is a bit lacking for this router ecosystem--too bad---the parental controls through opendns seem like
a good idea...

Hello tbilcox,
The Netgear Genie is actually supported by Netgear, so you may want to contact them for more information regarding the Genie, you can contact their support here: http://support.netgear.com/general/contact/default.aspx
If you have any further questions regarding OpenDNS products and services please let me know.
