LPC not blocking youtube etc when searched in google
Hi,
I am the sysadmin for a small organisation who want to block their employees from going to various websites, eg facebook, youtube etc. Their router is a Netgear DGND3700v2 on which i have enabled the Parental Controls feature and set the Filtering Level to High. This works for most sites (Facebook, porn, gambling etc) but for some reason, if in a web browser i search for Youtube rather than typing the address directly in the web browser, it will still take me there? this is after clearing the browser cache and doing a flushdns. Also in the Account Settings section of the netgear.opendns.com site, i have added youtube.com to the blacklist and yet it still allows me to go to the site! what could be the reason for this?
thanks,
-
OpenDNS cannot block search engine results without blocking the search engine itself. This is because the results are hosted on the search engine domain. OpenDNS can, however, block access to the links in search results. For example, if 'Youtube' is searched in Google then clicking the link to youtube.com should result in a block page if video sharing is blocked on your network.
If this is not the case, then there may be an issue with your LPC system. Are you receiving the block page when you visit any sites? Do you know if you use any proxies or filtering systems that may be interfering with the LPC's content filtering?
