    Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues. The Netgear Genie is actually supported by Netgear, so you may want to contact them for more information regarding the Genie, you can contact their support here: http://support.netgear.com/general/contact/default.aspx

If you have any further questions regarding OpenDNS products and services please let me know.

    Best regards,

This is a lame answer - this is directly related to OpenDNS pushing down some DNS IP addresses for the genie to use; which, block the genie from being able to access the IP addresses.  This is not a genie issue as much as it is an OpenDNS IP issue; where, the genie/router must be able to access the OpenDNS site to disable the Parental Controls so that a good DNS can be reinstalled on router.  Both Netgear and OpenDNS have culpability in this.  They market the software/hardware together and the users such as us are the ones being shoved back and forth between Netgear and OpenDNS.  Got any answers to resolve the issue besides redirecting the problem?

"Got any answers to resolve the issue besides redirecting the problem?"

Well, this is nearly one year old, and there was no follow-up, and it was not reported by anyone else.  So we can safely assume it was a single individual problem, solved in the one or other way by the user in between.

So, what's your problem?  Is it that "my internet not function every time I turn on parental control"?  Also, it looks like this is a pure router problem, unrelated to both, Genie and OpenDNS.  But if you can describe the symptoms more in detail, someone may look further into this.

I'm having the same problem.   I also have a new Netgear router however I also believe it is OpenDNS causing the trouble after switching to on "high".   I was unable to get to my gmail account on both IE and Chrome.   A few minutes after switching to "medium" security I was then able to connect to my gmail.   Why is gmail blocked on OpenDNS at High Level security and why did I get the message as seen below:

    Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information frommail.google.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

mail.google.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chrome tried to connect to mail.google.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. Either an attacker is trying to pretend to be mail.google.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit mail.google.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

You are describing two separate issues here, neither of which are the same as the first issue discussed in this thread. In that thread the poster could not get time based controls working properly and had no internet access, but as he did not follow up we don't know anything more.

The second of your issues has been discussed several times in these forums, and here is a link to the issue and it's resolution. https://support.opendns.com/entries/42404534-Chrome-with-Facebook-the-block-page-Your-connection-is-not-private-or-Cannot-connect-to-the-real-www

Following the instructions there might resolve your first issue, but if not, please create a separate thread for this issue, or post it to a thread that is already describing the same issue you are having, not a different issue.

    "I'm having the same problem."

No, in no way!  It doesn't seem you read the original problem, or you didn't understand it.

"I also believe it is OpenDNS causing the trouble after switching to on "high"... Why is gmail blocked on OpenDNS at High Level security"

Definitely, it's your settings!  The "high" level includes the webmail category, and, what do you think what Gmail is?

"I was unable to get to my gmail account on both IE and Chrome."

Yeah, you get what you configured, promised!  What else?  You would be disappointed if this wasn't the case and came back to complain too, right?

"A few minutes after switching to "medium" security I was then able to connect to my gmail."

Because "medium" does not contain the webmail category.  Doesn't this make sense?  Why do you wonder?

"why did I get the message as seen below"

Because you blocked the webmail category and therefore Gmail, and when you attempted visiting it, you didn't get presented with Gmail's HTTPS certificate, but with OpenDNS' instead, because you wanted it this way by blocking webmail (Gmail).  You get what you configured, promised, no exceptions and excuses!  What else would you expect?
