how to reset a username
how can i reset my DNS username?
-
Not really sure what you mean by "reset" and by "username". Your username is your e-mail address.
If you have a Netgear router with LPC enabled: https://netgear.opendns.com/
Else:
Forgot your password? Then click the link "Forgot your password?".
Other account settings: https://dashboard.opendns.com/myaccount/contacts

It's 15 months since I raised this. It's sad that you make your users jump through hoops to solve a usability issue that benefits you and would be so trivial for you to fix.
Anyway, I can't raise a ticket due to this:

Your OpenDNS email is your username and you'd need to use this to log into your settings. You can also submit a support request if not logged in by sending mail to support@opendns.com. Are you able to log into netgear.opendns.com with your email as your username? If so, this is the same login used by the LPC system.
-
Well, your explanation of the issue was this:
"I'm a home user. The login page asks for "Email (or username)", but there does not seem to be any username - only an email address."
I would understand that "login page" in this context is https://login.opendns.com/ - right?
Or is it this? https://netgear.opendns.com/sign_in.phpEither way, you enter your e-mail address you registered with OpenDNS and/or with LPC there. That's it!
In case you mean another "login page", let us know which one."how can i reset my DNS username?"
You can't. But you can change your e-mail address registered with the service if you want, after being logged in.
"The communication is to all users, even though its intended for only a subset of them. Either "username" should explained on the page, or there should be a link to a separate page that explains who it applies to. Currently, it's confusing."
Yes, this is not the case and may be confusing. But now as you know, it shouldn't be an issue for you anymore.

I should mention that I couldn't check your image http://i.imgur.com/YdPv2vx.png, because - it is blocked in the network I'm currently working from. You better had attached that image to your message ("Attach file")...
-
What I mean by that is, saying, "Yes, this is not the case and may be confusing" and then not caring enough about your user experience/UI intuitiveness to do something about it when someone brings it to your attention (even though it involves the most minor change to achieve) is frustrating. But it's your system and you can certainly ignore user feedback if you want.
-
If it's not clear, this is the login page I was referring to (see image attached). If only some users have a username, then it's confusing to ask them to enter it, even if they have an email address they could use.
A message on the page like, "Some users don't have a username. If that's you, just enter your email address instead", would clarify it.The validation message also needs to be improved from, "Login failed. Check your username and/or password." to "Login failed. Check your username or email address, and your password."

The screenshot of the login page you've provided shows it asking for email address as the primary form of login, noting that usernames can also be used. The netgear.opendns.com login page has it's design maintained by NETGEAR who still username as primary login.
On the current system, all accounts log in with their email address, and those with depreciated usernames grandfathered in can still use their username to log in. New accounts aren't able to get usernames so there's no way for us to generate one other than your email address for you. The login form is going under a redesign soon which should alleviate this concern; however, it does clearly say "Email" at the login form.

I was able to get around the Netgear problem by updating the firmware. I was having this same problem. Follow these steps
once the router is updated, it can be used with LPC and you can sign in with your email address. No need for username.
Worked for me
