My dashboard shows that the OpenDNS is on and working on my current IP address, however, when I tested the filter using the wifi on my smartphone it did not work.
About two months ago I successfully installed the OpenDNS on my router's IP address. I set up parental controls. I tested the system on my computer and it showed that it was working properly. I also installed the software to update for any new IP address. Today, I wanted to test the filters using my smart phone and computer and the filter failed on both. I logged into my dashboard and it showed that I still have my original IP address and that the system was working. I am very confused and sad as I have been assuming that all was safe for my children. I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

In case you intended to use Netgear LPC, you did nearly everything wrong. Not sure where you got all the wrong instructions from. So let's start over again.
"About two months ago I successfully installed the OpenDNS on my router's IP address."
There's nothing to install "on my router's IP address". For Netgear LPC you install and run the Management Utility (http://netgear.com/LPC#four) or Netgear Genie (http://www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx) on a computer to set things up initially.
"I also installed the software to update for any new IP address."
Very bad. You must not do this with Netgear LPC. Your IP address is irrelevant. The device ID is what counts. Uninstall this Updater software.
"I logged into my dashboard and it showed that I still have my original IP address"
Login to https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ again, and delete your network there. This dashboard is incompatible with LPC. Your only and right LPC dashboard is at https://netgear.opendns.com/
Use only this for your content filtering settings going further.
Use the normal dashboard for your account settings only: https://dashboard.opendns.com/myaccount/"and that the system was working"
You cannot see at the normal OpenDNS dashboard if anything works with Netgear LPC. Better visit http://welcome.opendns.com/ to get confirmation.

Thanks for your response, however, I did not purchase a router that works with Netgear. I recently purchased a costly Linksys router and set it up with OpenDns. I looked at the websites that you suggested and the Netgear router looks like it does offer a nice product and I like that it gives you a dashboard for setting up parental controls. However, since I have a Linksys router I will not be able to utilize their Netgear's control features unless I buy a new router. I wish I would have known about it before my purchase. Therefore, I only have the dashboard that OpenDns provides free of charge to work with in setting up controls. If I am not thinking correctly about this can you please help me understand where I am wrong? Thanks. In the meantime, I was able to identify my problem with my current set up. My IP address changed and therefore the parental controls were not managing the current IP address. What I don't understand is why the software I installed to circumvent this problem did not work. This is software provided by OpenDns that is supposed to automatically apply controls should your IP address change. Until I figure it out I am going to check my IP address daily for changes. Mind you I may not use all of the correct lingo as I am educating myself and for me it is like learning a foriegn language. My main goal as a mom is to protect my kids as much as possible. Thanks!

"I did not purchase a router that works with Netgear. I recently purchased a costly Linksys router"
Then forget what I said above, and listen to the following instructions.
In case your router has more than two DNS server entries, fill them all with OpenDNS resolver addresses from:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.220
208.67.220.222Ensure that you're using OpenDNS for your DNS queries by visiting http://welcome.opendns.com/
"the parental controls were not managing the current IP address."
This is bad understanding. Your parental controls do manage your IP address in no way. Your Updater program informs OpenDNS about your IP address, so that OpenDNS can use it to associate your DNS queries with your OpenDNS settings.
https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/"What I don't understand is why the software I installed to circumvent this problem did not work."
Go into the settings of this Updater and ensure you have not checked the option "Send Dns-O-Matic updates". This is the most often reason why it doesn't work.
