Confused about Netgear Parental Controls vs OpenDNS account

I've had an OpenDNS account for years (and still do) and have had no issues.  Recently purchased a Netgear R6300v2 thinking the OpenDNS parental controls would be familiar and as easy.  Today, I have the Netgear parental controls set up for Moderate... I have my router configured to manually set the DNS routers to OpenDNS... and my OpenDNS account is still running and still also set to Moderate... but if I pick some site that previously I couldn't hit... it comes up no problem.  Am I cancelling myself out?  Is my ISP being sneaky?
