Running a Netgear router with LPC enabled?

Try with adding steampowered.com to your "always block" list at https://netgear.opendns.com/
Blocking the Games category should do as well.

Regarding the 2048 game and scheduled blocking, you'll want to block gabrielecirulli.github.io by category, i.e. Blogs or Software/Technology by a scheduled filtering rule.

Flush your caches after each settings change.

By adding steampowered.com doesnot block the kid from logging into Steam and play games. They use the HL2.exe to log-in. Can anyone help?

You reproduce this while running http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/dns_query_sniffer.html to see what domains are being queried.  Then block those by category (for scheduling purposes) or blacklisting.

Alternatively or in addition, uninstall this HL2.exe from their computer, and block the domains where it can be downloaded from.  Also, don't let your kid be admin on the computer, just regular user.  Regular users may not be able to install such programs.

Try out the sniffer and block the domains but my kid still can play it. Uninstall HL2 is not an option as he is allowed to play once a while. Can we have an option to stop certain application to run instead?

You can surely have such an option, but not from OpenDNS.  OpenDNS is an external recursive DNS service and has no control over your internet connection or computer applications running locally.  You can only block name resolution of domains with this service.

@pixiu I see you are using a Dlink router with an OpenDNS integration and also have a network registered.  Having two different OpenDNS filtering services on your network can cause conflicts, would you mind if I remove the network from your account so that filtering settings are only on your router to see if that helps block access to hl2.exe?  You can also delete the network from your dashboard.

Thanks! Kristy Patullo for your suggestion. Had deleted the network from the account and lets see what happened.
