This software is deprecated.  You should be using Netgear Genie now.

Thanks rotblitz, I am using Genie as well, but the enabled status stays active for about one day only - something is switching it off - I've changed the password but still no joy.

Then you'll want to refer to Netgear support.  It seems to be a problem with your router.
If you get it solved, you may want to post it here, so that it is of use for other users.

The issue you're describing is either a software issue with your router, someone on your home network knowing the router's administrator password (the default is admin, password - this is different from your OpenDNS account!!!), or someone physically resetting the router in the house. Please be aware that the router's access password would be all that is required to turn off the filtering - your OpenDNS login would not be required because the router login is the administrator password for the router. I'd suggest editing this router password to something more secure and changing your OpenDNS password just in case.

Thanks Alexander, I appreciate the time you've taken to write this.  The router is a WNDR3700 v1 running latest official firmware.  I've changed the passwords to both the router and OpenDNS and will check again tomorrow. Unfortunately when I logged in again tonight and checked the status using the latest Genie it goes to the set up page rather than the status page and i need to set it up each time.  Tomorrow I'll discover if my boys have hacked me.  Bt the way, OpenDNS was working fine without disabling for several months.

It's possible that there might be an issue with the device registration, and what I can do is clear out the current registration and allow you to re-register it from scratch which may help with the shutting off issue.

I also see that the WNDR 3700 isn't supported til v3 with the Genie, therefore I'd recommend using the older LPC Management Utility (and bypass utility from http://opendns.com/downloads) from http://netgear.com/lpc. This is older software, but for your router version it is the only one with listed support from NETGEAR.

    Issue is solved...

...by changing password to both opendns (which wasn't known) and router (which was known).  OpenDNS is no longer disabling. One of my hacker sons will now have to resort to old stick mags. Do they still exist?

How did they disable OpenDNS with the router's password? (which was different from the OpenDNS password)

Thanks again to rotblitz & Alexander.

Since the LPC system is enabled and disabled on the router software side - it is able to be disabled with just the router password. The filtering settings would require the OpenDNS password to modify; however, the system can be disabled with the router password alone.
