Login to https://netgear.opendns.com/ to see if you have filtering disabled or lowered for your bypass account's user ID.

And yes, the User Utility and Management Utility programs have been replaced by the Genie app.

thank you.  the bypass account is listed "don" (that's me) - for this router -  with no filtering.  when i use genie to connect to the r6200 router, i can enable and disable filtering. however, when i have filtering on, and logon to my bypass account (to where "don: shows on the genie as bypassed), theree is still filtering on this computer that is running the genie.  its as if the router does not konw what computer should be tied to the bypass account.  in former times, with another router - i had to to tell it by running a utility - and it would konw that was the right compute.r

not sure if i am makeing sense here. but it seems that filtering is working, but bypass is not working.

one additional comment - we moved this r6200 router (my sisters) from another location. in the process of ding this it was reset and set up from scratch.  not sure if there is some setting that is remote from netgear or opendns that could be interfering.

another piece of informaiton - i have another router (wndr4000 not using currently) that shows on myopen dns account. could this be a problem and interfering withtthe r6200? I dont see a way to remove this on the website.

maybe starting from scratch - remove routers from website, remove and reinstall genie would work (but i dont konw how to remove the routers from your side.

"theree is still filtering on this computer that is running the genie."

First start with flushing your caches on the computer before you login to the bypass account via Genie.

    Didn't help?

"i have another router (wndr4000 not using currently) that shows on myopen dns account. could this be a problem and interfering withtthe r6200? I dont see a way to remove this on the website."

Yes, this could well be a problem too.  You can't remove the obsolete device yourself but must open a support ticket with the details to get it removed.

    "maybe starting from scratch"

No, better not.  Just raise a ticket to get the obsolete device removed from your OpenDNS account.

    "from your side"

It's not my side.  I'm just a user like you...

i used ipconfig/flushdns command from command prompt in windows 8. rebooted. connected to router with genie. turned prptection on.

    - verified filtering was working

then i loged on to bypass account "don" (no filtering selected)  - and retested.  router is still filtering. logged out of bypass account

    - rerran flushdns from command prompt

    - loged on to bypass= don.

    - tested - still filtering.  i cant seem to see how to get filtering bypass to work.

you gave also browser cache claraning procedure, but i dont thik this is relevant - as i am assceeing the router through the genie.

"you gave also browser cache claraning procedure, but i dont thik this is relevant - as i am assceeing the router through the genie"

But you access the web with the browser, not with Genie, therefore it is relevant.  Your browser cache may still show you the block pages and even not raise a new DNS lookup.

You open a ticket while clicking the "Submit a Request" tab on top of this page to get your and your sister's account right.  Think about, it's weekend, so you will have to wait to get it done by staff until at least Monday.

thank you - you say i need to purge browser cache as well becaues that is what is used for the internet.  but in this case i am not using the internet from my computer - so i don't quite understand this.  i any case i can certainly try this.  i have three browsers (ie, firefix, chrome)  on my computer, do i need to clear all three?  I actually did try to clear ff and chrome eariler, but the instructions provided did not provide proper guidance to clear. as my browser (versions) did not look the same as the the description in the guidance document (especially chrome).

thank you also on guidance to delete router. .

That  is the fact with browser caches that they store the web content you visited to present it the next times to save network traffic.  If you visited a block page with a certain browser, you may get it again next time, disregarding any changes regarding OpenDNS and LPC, no matter what browser it is and what machine it runs on.  Therefore you must flush the caches.

ok. i cleared the computer cashe, and cleand cache of all three browsers.  still - filter bypass does not work.

talked also to netgear - who said it takes up to 24 hours for settings changes to take effect, so i will wait 24 hours annd somfirm what i think i already konw, and that is tht the bypass feature does not work.

i suspect a conflict with wndr4000, or perhaps with the r6200v2 on opendns (if a prior accoint form this device/mac is in existence).

the only way i can change filtering - is to toggle it on or off - it is all or none at the moment .

also i can not change the filtering settings.  when i set to "none"  i still get filtering.  but when i turn it off - the filtering stops.  it as if there is a conflict and the information for my account is coming from somewhere else when i try to run filtering.

thks in advance fo ryou help.

What a nonsense!  They should fire their support people or educate them better...

"i suspect a conflict with wndr4000, or perhaps with the r6200v2 on opendns"

Yes, I suspect too this is the root cause.  You'll have to wait for OpenDNS then.  Only staff can clarify and correct this.

    Hi

I cant tell from your mails, but here is an idea, if your computer is only used by you.

This LPC services is directing your DNS traffic to openDNS and then your internet is filtered. If you have not done anything with port 53, ill assume you don't know what that is and you don't want to.

    What you can do is:

On YOUR computer, change the IP settings to not be automatic and set your DNS to the one your ISP uses.

That way, your computer never gets redirected and filtered, but all the other devices in the house still do.

This is a backdoor and smart kids can figure this out, so in my house I blocked port 53, so all devices including my computer gets redirected, but in my case the bypass works (after about 5 mins)

Not possible.  This is blocked by Netgear LPC.
