One reason could be: The videos are most likely not be hosted on the website's domain, but loaded from another domain. You had to whitelist this too.

    http://www.webpagetest.org/domains.php?test=141114_87_VTF&run=1&cached=0

Another reason could be a configuration error.  Copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here:

       nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.

       nslookup www.jellytelly.com.

Thank you for your help I do not understand the second part of your comments if you could maybe say it in a way that I could understand sorry :(

"Copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands here:

       nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.

       nslookup www.jellytelly.com."

Those are commands that would need to be run in the command prompt and will supply outputs that will confirm whether or not you are configured to use our service properly.  If you are using Windows the command prompt can be opened from the Start menu by choosing Run, typing cmd into the text box, copying one of the commands supplied by rotblitz and hitting enter to see the output.

I noticed that you have a network and Netgear parental controls device registered in your dashboard.  This is probably what is causing the issue because you are using 2 different content filtering services on your network and they may be conflicting with each other.  The OpenDNS Home Basic service filters via an IP address whereas the Netgear device uses a device ID.  We recommend using only one of these services on your network at a time.  It sounds like you are actively using the Netgear service so I recommend logging into your dashboard at dashboard.opendns.com and deleting the network under your Settings tab to remove any filtering conflicts.

It is as Christy said, you're using two different services which are incompatible with each other.

Visit the "normal" dashbord at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ and delete the network from there.  You cannot configure content filtering at this dashboard if you have Netgear LPC enabled.

Your Netgear LPC dashboard is only at https://netgear.opendns.com/ where you can configure content filtering including adding jellytelly.com to your "never block" list if this is needed at all due to being blocked.

Yes thank you I have followed both those steps, I have deletedthe network and added all the domains associated, but it is still not working I would appreciate further help.

    Thank you very much

The nslookup result of jellytelly.com which you pasted above indicates that it should not be blocked, it is not resolving to one of our block page lander IP addresses.  Have you tried clearing your browser caches since applying the change?  We have directions here: https://support.opendns.com/entries/26336865-Clearing-the-DNS-Cache-on-Computers-and-Web-Browsers or a restart of your machine should do the trick.

Yes I have it is on the PC's it is not working should I send you the run thing from them too?

If clearing the caches doesn't help and as I said above, the videos may be hosted on different domains.  (Too bad that this service isn't free, so I cannot check out myself.)

According to my link, the following domains are candidates for whitelisting, but only in case you have blocked them, e.g. by category:

netdna-cdn.com   (part of real name for the alias cdn.jellytelly.com)
    platform.twitter.com
    googleapis.com
    bootstrapcdn.com

I have added them too and it is still not working you can go in with my account if you like and check it?

Not me, I'm a user like you.  This needs to be investigated by OpenDNS staff.

I can confirm that all of these domains have been added to your Allow list, what do you see on the block page when you attempt to visit jellytelly.com?  Would you please send a screenshot?  If you need instructions please see: http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

My whitelist is aIso not working.  Sometimes it will suddenly start to work, but well after the 3 minutes (not even close).  I've worked in Networking for 30 years so I don't think this is user error.  So far I would have to say this is the worst content filter I've ever used.  To answer the question this is my recommendation.  I would suggest getting BlueCoat K9 Protection for free.  Works great.  The only reason I tried OpenDNS is because my teenage son got a Chrome Book as a gift and I can't load a content filter on it.  I'll just stick with Safe Search on the Chrome Book and use K9 everywhere else.

I forgot to add to my last comment.  Stats are not working properly either.  Lots of Ooops messages when retrieving data.  Lots of Ooops messages when going to websites which shouldn't happen since I set up custom messages.  I added some sub domains and then went out to dinner with my family for over an hour.  Came back and still not working.  Then about 10 minutes after getting back they suddenly started to work.

So after waiting for over an hour and not changing anything, my white list suddenly started working.  So I decided to go back to High Web Content Filtering.  I didn't change any of the domains, but now it's not working.  It's blocking me.  I cleared browsing data and flushed dns and still not working.

    @bozodaclown
You're totally wrong here, in each way.  This here is about Netgear LPC, not about OpenDNS Home Basic.  These are different services.

"I've worked in Networking for 30 years"

This is of no use here.  Of use would be to raise your problems as an own new thread in the right section of the forum instead of hi-jacking another thread in an off-topic way.

Regarding your problem, it may still be a caching problem although you think you flushed your caches.
    https://support.opendns.com/entries/26336865-Clearing-the-DNS-Cache-on-Computers-and-Web-Browsers

If you're still having problems then, raise a new thread under the right section of the forum.

    For example:
"Lots of Ooops messages when retrieving data.  Lots of Ooops messages when going to websites which shouldn't happen since I set up custom messages."

In your new thread you would have to post the complete plain text output of:

       nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.

It seems your IP address information is not correctly registered with OpenDNS.  I may see it from the command output.

Definition of Forum:  "a meeting or assembly for the open discussion of subjects of public interest."   If you're going to have a forum then you need to be able to accept all points of view.  You are correct in that this was probably the wrong forum but it was in regards to the White list not working.  I had already wasted too much of my time to try and find the exact forum to post and did not want to waste any more time starting a new one.  In the end, I felt that I gave the person with the issue the best solution.  As to your other points:

If my IP address is not correctly registered then why did I get confirmation that it was?
Then why does my white list suddenly start working, but then stop working when I switch to High?
Why do I sometimes get my customized message when blocked and other times not?
Why does the white list start working when I switch back to Moderate?
I already know how to flush my cache and I did read the opendns documentation to make sure I wasn't missing something.
My 30 years is relevant because I have seen many instances of vendors rushing a product to market when they aren't ready for prime time. Even major players. Cisco, Juniper, etc. The bottom line is, posts like my are actually help to OpenDNS because you now have extra incentive to fix the issues.  If you say, well they can be fixed if I try xxxx, then try yyyyy, then try zzzzz, oh but you forgot to do this, then the product is not ready for primetime.  Again, my 30 years has taught me, that I would rather have people tell me there is an issue then to simply give up and use a workaround.  In this case, use another product.

Here is the screenshot, I can enter the website but when I click on a video to play it, the video is blocked I cannot even see it to play it. If I take all the controls of I see the video to the left of all the words i.e. the title and description but when I put the controls on all there is, is a blank space, it has been blocked. Thanks for your help.

Oh I also appreciate the information about K9 protection at least I have some options now if I cannot get this figured out. Thank you.

Thanks for the screenshot.  It looks like these videos use player.ooyala.com to play these videos.  Would you please try whitelisting  player.ooyala.com or  ooyala.com to play the content?

  • Avatar
    rotblitz

Also player-cdn.ooyala.com is a candidate for the whitelist.  Especially, ensure that you have not blocked any CDN domains or subdomains of akamaiedge.net, akadns.net or edgekey.net.
