Host name for Netgear Smart Wizard ?
I am unsure what the Host name should be "from the DNS service provider" when trying to install parental control from netgear' genie ? Please see attached screen shot. When selecting 'show status', it says the host is not reachable or is invalid. Have tried netgear and OpenDNS as suggested on some websites... thanks

Your screen shot is showing the DDNS update client function of your Netgear WNR2000v2 router, and you have selected the "www.DynDNS.org" service, not the OpenDNS service (if this is an option at all).
You cannot enter a hostname of "OpenDNS.com" for this Dyn service, because this is not a Dynamic DNS hostname and not owned by you. You can enter only a hostname where you have control over, from the Service Provider you selected. As you say, "the Host name should be "from the DNS service provider"", and OpenDNS is not such a Dynamic DNS service provider. OpenDNS is a recursive DNS service provider.
In case you don't know what this DDNS function is good for, read from page 4-6 of your user manual to get more insight:
http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNR2000V2/WNR2000v2_UM_15JAN2010.pdf"when trying to install parental control from netgear' genie"
You should not try, and you do not need this DDNS function for OpenDNS and Live Parental Control purposes! You need it only for Dynamic DNS purposes, as explained in the manual.
Instead of trying you're to strictly follow these instructions for LPC:

Hi there!
OpenDNS is not a DDNS service, so configuration to DDNS would not allow you to use OpenDNS.To set up NETGEAR's Live Parental Control, please see this article: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25687/~/how-to-configure-live-parental-control-on-my-netgear-router
To set up OpenDNS directly on your NETGEAR without enabling Live Parental Control, please see this article: https://opendns.zendesk.com/entries/42423390-NETGEAR-Router-Configuration
If you have any questions, feel free to submit a support ticket. Good luck!
