Ahh and now the Mac Genie client won't go past the "Live Parental Controls" screen where I can choose None/Minimal/Low/Moderate/High/Custom levels of web filtering. The button just says "Try again." No idea if this is related?

Nevermind the Mac. I hit Back and tried again, it worked this time.

Still have issues with Windows though. I'm using an administrator account.

You unfortunately got the wrong forum. Genie is solely Netgear's product, not OpenDNS'.  You'll have to refer to Netgear support.

Ok I will ask them, but isn't the name of this forum misleading? It is called "Netgear Live Parental Controls" and I came here not by Google searching randomly but through the Netgear wizards, trying to activate parental controls, and failing to do so. Maybe Netgear needs to update their settings if they are pointing people to the wrong forum?

Exactly, this forum is for LPC related stuff only.  LPC is only the part in the cloud powered by OpenDNS, i.e. domain filtering by category and bypass accounts.

Everything else is with Netgear, especially the Genie software where LPC initialization is just one single item of it.  Genie is a tool for everything relating to router management and maintenance.  And you did not have troubles with setting up LPC, but with installing Genie on Windows, right?  These have nothing to do with each other.

I believe you can set up LPC also without Genie.  You'll need:

Not sure if this works also with Netgear's newer router models and firmware though.

"Maybe Netgear needs to update their settings if they are pointing people to the wrong forum?"

Maybe, or maybe not, because it seems you misunderstood what LPC comprises and what not.
