how do i block specific searches and all porn sites
OpenDNS, being a DNS based service only knows about domain names. It knows nothing about websites, webpages, URL's, content, images, or anything else that is not only a domain name. That means it also has no capability to recognize, let alone block, specific searches. The closest you can come to this using OpenDNS is to block the search engine category, enable the search engines you want, and if available, force "safe search" to be used on that search engine for all devices on your network.
To block porn sites you would block the pornography category, along with any other category that you want blocked.
To block specific searches on Google, you'll have to follow Google's instructions: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/186669?hl=en
OpenDNS cannot help here, because it can block DNS lookups for domains, not any other kind of object, as mattwilson9090 said.
Okay, so OpenDNS really can NOT do what they advertise, and block all pornography. Simply put griff0n you can't! You can block all the major search engines, as an entire category and than add a safe one to your white list. However you can't block all porn sites unless you also block ALL search engines that enable image search. Thus OpenDNS can not work to protect anyone from being exposed to pornography. Instead you will have to purchase something like covenant eyes.
P.S. rotblitz I must say you have to be the rudest person on this entire forum, possibly because you do nothing other than sit around reading these threads posting nasty snide remarks? OpenDNS please monitor people like this, and moderate their ability to post!
No matter what you think about me, it's your opinion. You have the right to have it, and I'll defend your right to express it.
"what they advertise, and block all pornography"
Do they? Please point me to the place where this is advertised. And "all" depends also on you, on the degree you participate in domain tagging. Or do you expect us other users to do the job on behalf of you? And if you participate, do you keep up with all the new websites coming up each day?
"However you can't block all porn sites unless you also block ALL search engines that enable image search."
So, you're saying that all search engines with image search are porn sites? Well, this is certainly not common sense, but your individual view.
And if you really want to ensure having blocked ALL pornography, that's easy. Subscribe to OpenDNS VIP and enable the whitelist-only mode.
