    You start probably here? https://www.opendns.com/setupguide/?url=homefree

Or simply copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic command here, and I may see what's missing.

    nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.

Where do I enter this command in?

First into a command prompt window, and then copy & paste it here.

I don't know if it matters, but I did this from work. I'm not connected to my Netgear router from home.

From work?  LOL, the output of the command is only interesting from the network you want to use OpenDNS with, of course.  Else everybody's output in the world would be fine...

Also, you forgot the trailing dot of the command.  Next time think about it!

"I'm not connected to my Netgear router from home."

Ah, you have a Netgear router???  This is new but important information!
Did you want to use Live Parental Controls?  Then forget my instructions above, but simply move on to Netgear's instructions!

You cannot use LPC together with any other OpenDNS service.

When I couldn't get it to work, I was flailing around trying to fix it, and I turned parental controls on. It didn't help. Thus, I got so confused with everything.

I'm thinking that the parental controls don't offer me any advantage, so I would rather just use the base OpenDNS. Am I missing something here? Do you think I'm wrong?

I'll try it later tonight from home and post my results. Thanks.

Of course, you can use OpenDNS Home and not LPC.  This is a viable option.
    Awaiting your results...

At this point,  I would like to use OpenDNS-home. Do you know of any advantage of using the NetGEAR PC?

LPC comes with scheduled blocking and with bypass accounts, but has no logs and stats.  OpenDNS Home comes with logs and stats, but has no schedules and bypass accounts.

You currently have LPC enabled.  If you want to use OpenDNS Home, you must disable LPC via Genie.  The "device" field should then disappear from the command output above.

Unfortunately you didn't post the complete output, but the last part only, so I cannot see what "server" is being used. :(
You most likely still must configure the OpenDNS resolver addresses on the router:
    https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/228006447

You apparently have already a network added at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/ to be seen from the "originid", "actype" and "bundle" fields above, and your IP address 24.51.161.103 is registered at your dashboard for network ID 35677147.  Visit your dashboard to ensure that this is really the case.
You should also run an Updater to keep your changing IP address information updated at OpenDNS.
    https://www.opendns.com/downloads/

After the settings changes you should flush your caches.
    https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227988627
Then visit http://welcome.opendns.com/ to see if you're using OpenDNS.

It confirms what DNS server your computer is using which is 192.168.1.1 (your router).  The remainder is still the same, still using LPC (and OpenDNS Home in parallel which doesn't properly work due to incompatibility).

    What are bypass accounts?

I see, you normally do not follow links I have posted. :(  Why do I do it then?

Again, see http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25687/ (from step 11).

I'm sorry! I actually love links, but I've been trying to do several things at once and am doing a bad job at all of them!

Okay. I disabled parental controls, and I think I've configured it correctly. But I don't know if it's working correctly. Is there a best way to test it? I'm a little skeptical about believing what I find, because I thought I was blocking the Internet for years (six kids), but it turns out I haven't been.
