Netgear Genie won't log in to OpenDNS account: "The action failed. Try again."
This appears to be a common problem. I've set up my new Netgear R6400v2, downloaded the Netgear Genie App, and I am trying to attempt the use of Parental controls. It directs me to sign into an OpenDNS account, which I have already created when trying to set up through my old router (I'll get to that in a second).
Every time I try to log in I'm given the same error message: "The action failed. Try again."
Regardless of what password I type in, the message is the same. Now I am completely able to sign in to OpenDNS on their website, but this gets me nowhere helpful. I need this connectivity through Netgear Genie. I bought this router to replace my old WNR2000v4. I was having the same issue and I was advised that the old unit was to blame.
Have I made a huge mistake putting my faith in Netgear? Because this is becoming way more trouble than it's worth. If I cannot figure this out by the end of the week I will be returning this router.

2muchdew Were you able to find a solution for your problem? I am having the same problem like you not being able to use the login from netgear genie.

I submitted a support ticket. It auto generated a link. I went through each step, but ended up back at square one. It seemed promising at first because when I logged in and actually it took a moment to try instead of immediately saying "Action failed."

I had the same problem and worked with Netgear Support for more than a week to get it fixed. They never suggested the fix I finally found. I also contacted OpenDNS to make sure my account name, password, etc. were recognizable there; they were. The problem is with Netgear.
I finally got around it by downloading the app onto my desktop computer instead of trying to make it work through the Genie app on my phone. I went to the MyNetgear home page and searched Parental Controls; it brought me here: https://www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/lpc.aspx. I scrolled all the way down to the bottom, the last paragraph and clicked on this link: DOWNLOAD PC | DOWNLOAD Mac
This obscurely-placed, poorly-marked hyperlink finally allowed me to download the software onto my PC, install it and access my Netgear Parental Controls. Now I have my fingers crossed that the Genie computer app will link successfully to my Genie phone app, so I could control web access when away from my kids at home.

I had the same problem with my NetGear Nighthawk r7900. The firmware at the time did not work. They gave me some beta firmware which worked. I assumed that update firmware would work...but next update did the same thing (Netgear did not fix the issue). I had to downgrade the firmware to get it working again. It is frustrating because you get stuck between OpenDNS and Netgear...neither really helping. All... I will say is that I think this mostly is a Netgear issue (firmware). I don't plan on supporting them. I am going to try a different brand.

You do not go through auto-generated links, but you wait for staff working on and responding to your ticket.
