Still experiencing interruptions
Hi OpenDNS Community,
I have been experiencing very strange interruptions while using the internet at my home. It seems as if the majority of my internet activity is being redirected to websites that are not the actual websites that I intended to visit. For example, if I’m reading a news article, the content of that page is slightly changed to show my personal identifiable information which is inserted into various places of the article’s text. I have no idea how my information is being obtained & why it is being displayed. This activity comes across as hostile. I am a recent college graduate and I have been browsing many different online job sites. However, I’m afraid that my submissions are being redirected to the wrong person.
I have followed the instructions to change my DNS server addresses to Open DNS’ but I am still experiencing the same activity. I even switched ISP’s but the issue still persists. Is there anything else I can configure to resolve the issue? Would OpenDNS’ services help me with what I’ve described? I’m looking forward to reading any ideas!
Thank you!

More information is needed. Can you post screen shots of such examples and the related URLs? Did you scan your computer for malware and viruses?

Hi rotblitz,
Yes. About 2 weeks ago I did a virus scan and a “Trojan.Gen.2” was found. This was located within my browser’s cache. I deleted it. However, I was still experiencing redirects after I deleted it. That is when I was lead to check out the DNS settings again. Here are my current DNS settings:
Are these the correct settings for OpenDNS?
I did another virus scan after I read your reply. This scan came back with a system infection named “Adware.OSX.Spigot”
Here are the details from my virus scan log:
I only use my computer for homework, job hunting, and administering my small business. I do read online articles that I usually find through one of the major search engines. I don’t download any games or anything like that. I’m very mindful of the programs/files that I download. This is why I was surprised to find any sort of Adware on my computer.
Having said that, I am mostly concerned with any sort of redirecting that is going on. Is there anything else within the scope of OpenDNS’ services that I should be configuring and implementing? I need to secure my studies, employment, and my business. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for reading. I’m excited to read more!

Hello rotblitz,
Thank you for your reply. At this point, I feel uncomfortable uploading anything further as that would involve sharing my personal identifiable information.
I thought this was somehow related to DNS because I am aware that a DNS request can be intercepted. However, If you’re expressing that this forum is the wrong place for such topics, then I’ll reevaluate my approach.
Thank you & have a blessed evening!

I cannot exclude DNS request interception e.g. caused by malware. But this insight would depend on additional information about what is being redirected how and to where. You may want to check your local hosts file for suspicious entries. This is often the method of DNS traffic interception.
