Users of Netsanity and OpenDNS
I just wanted to add something to users who are using Netsanity with OpenDNS on an IPhone IOS. I have discovered that even with iPhone restrictions to specific sites associated with Spotify that blocking URL's or domain doesn't work all the time. I was trying to block the ability to view, browse, and download explicit sexual content from Spotify for my children.
I have setup ScreenTime restrictions on the iphone, I have the Netsanity VPN constantly running, and at home we have the DNS servers on our DHCP home network. The ScreenTime works perfect when allowing my child to go at a certain time with restrictions to what apps are accessibile along with the amount of time allowed. In addition, the added layer of Netsanity blocks apps that the iphone doesn't list for example, Pinterest and Facebook. With Netsanity in the Category Blocking section, I can Uncheck or Disable 'Streaming Media' and it allows my child to open up Spotify and listen to their songs on the playlist. It doesn't allow them to view, browse, or download any new material until Netsanity 'Streaming Media' is unchecked.
With OpenDNS, I have blacklisted open.spotify.com which is also another critical component of Spotify, but I just thought other users might find this information helpful. I don't want to advertise for Netsanity, but as a parent, it does give me control when apps like Spotify takes away the monitoring control of a parent. They don't even have parental controls if you created a family premium account. This has been in the works with Spotify, but don't know if they will find it beneficial. Until then, using iphone restrictions to limit my childs time on and off daily, along with Netsanity control over allowed apps, games, and restricted sites, and OpenDNS it gives me the sense of full protection at home and when my child is not.
