Using GoogleWIFI with OpenDNS but sites are not blocked
Hi,
I have searched the forums and posts related to configuring GoogleWIFI but am still not getting the answer i need.
I have Comcast service coming into the house with a Comcast modem. From there i go directly to a googleWIFI unit. I have configured googleWIFI to use the OpenDNS DNS servers. Even with this configuration, rebooting, clearing cache, etc., nothing is blocked. the OpenDNS test page says i am not using OpenDNS.
I registered my WAN IP with openDNS and when i do an nslookup i get the following information.
C:\Users\dafill>nslookup 73.169.90.216
Server: testwifi.here
Address: 192.168.86.1
Name: c-73-169-90-216.hsd1.co.comcast.net
Address: 73.169.90.216
Any help is appreciated. I am sure it's a simple fix that i am just not seeing right now!
Regards,
Daniel

If these do not help, then Comcast could redirect your DNS traffic to their own DNS service. Call them to opt out from this redirection. I don't know why, for some customers they set up DNS proxying for no reason...

The thread you gave me that had feedback from "windowsguy" actually solved it for me. I didn't have to make any other changes than get on the Comcast router and turn protected browsing off. Evidently this was preventing the DNS settings (OpenDNS IP's) in GoogleWIFI from handling the traffic. Thanks for the help!
