I just tried OpenDNS for the 3rd or 4th time. My subjective experience is the same: slow internet after configuring OpenDNS. For Fibre Broadband, I am using TrustPower here in NZ and was using their DNS Servers.
I am not a Networking Specialist - but I am an App Architect. I ran an DNS speed check here in NZ using a WebSite checking tool and was getting 150ms latency for many lookups from NZ. If you browse a complext WebSite that pulls info from many sites, then all this latency adds up - which could add up to many seconds of latency. You have to consider DNS caching too - so maybe I should have just waited a while until many of the addresses were cached. But this is maybe the 3rd or 4th time I have tried OpenDNS. Perviously, we tried it for several months - but were unhappy with the speed. I love the technology in theory: (a) simple to configure; (b) easy of use; (c) covers all devices in the house; (d) but the factor that prevents me from using it is speed - maybe I don't understand the details - but subjectively - it does not work for us here in NZ. Too slow.
