Automate removal of dead links (Community Domain Tagging)
Related to: Domain Tagging Option to Flag Dead Sites
Most of the domains awaiting voting are dead. Shouldn't detecting them be a relatively simple task for a computer to automate?
To avoid the possibility of removing sites that are temporarily offline or location-restricted, this can be done over a period of time from a few locations (perhaps even via software users around the world can install and run idly). Meanwhile, dead links awaiting removal can be tagged in a separate category and filtered out from active links.
I believe that weeding out dead links will greatly improve the efficiency of the community voting process by redirecting focus to active links only. New, active links will receive more attention, and valuable user input won't be wasted by viewing inactive sites. It is a simple way to speed up the domain tagging process without actually having to change it.
