How to update root address of domain on Cloudflare with Dynamic IP
Hello,
I'd like to setup DNS-O-Matic to update the root address of my domain on Cloudflare. In other words, I want to update the record below:
But in the DNS-O-Matic control panel for Cloudflare, I don't seem to have a way to update the root address. Specifically, if I look at this screen:
- I cannot leave the hostname field blank
- Entering the value "@" gives the error "No record found"
- Entering the value "'dynamic" gives the error "No record found" if I don't create a A record named "dynamic" in Cloudflare. But once I do that, only the "dynamic" subdomain is updated.
I could workaround this by using a CNAME for the root address, but that is not recommended so I'd like to avoid it if at all possible.
Does anyone have ideas on this?

You use CloudFlare‘s root domain flattening and create a CNAME for the root domain, as you said. You update the target subdomain. This is recommended. Not sure why you think it is not.

rotblitz I have seen the option in CloudFlare to do CNAME Flattening, but this is not really as per the DNS Standard specification. See this article or this one.
Since this is not really the best approach, I'm hoping there's a way to update the root address directly with DNS-O-Matic. Is that something that DNS-O-Matic does not support?
