Can't turn on parental controls

Installed a new R9000 router recently. I had parental controls turned on, on my old netgear router through the DNS. I downloaded the Netgear Genie and logged in. It is connected to my router. But now when I click on the Parental Control button it says "Checking router firmware". And it won't let me go any further. I have turned the router off and back on like it suggested, but still the same thing. It shouldn't be this complicated.

  It looks like Netgear is migrating from LPC to Disney Circle, and therefore LPC is not supported on newer models and newer firmware versions any longer. You can use OpenDNS Home instead.
